ABSTRACT

In the digital era, advanced technologies have played an increasingly important role in auditing by enhancing efficiency and supporting the reliability of financial information. However, prior research has largely emphasized the direct effects of technology on audit quality, with limited attention to the underlying processes. This study examines the effect of advanced audit technology capability on audit quality, with audit process efficiency as a mediating mechanism. Data were collected from 310 certified public accountants (CPAs) in Thailand and analyzed using covariance-based structural equation modeling (CB-SEM). The results indicate that advanced audit technology capability significantly improves audit process efficiency, which in turn enhances audit quality. Furthermore, some technologies influence audit quality only indirectly through audit process efficiency, while others exhibit both direct and indirect effects, highlighting the heterogeneous roles of different technologies. This study contributes by providing a process-based explanation of how technological capability is translated into audit outcomes. The findings offer both theoretical insights and practical guidance for audit firms in effectively integrating advanced technologies into audit processes to improve audit quality.
